❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
+
To find X% of Y, use the formula: Result = (X ÷ 100) × Y. For example, 20% of 500 = (20 ÷ 100) × 500 = 100. Just enter the percentage and the number in the "% of a Number" tab and click Calculate.
How do I calculate percentage increase?
+
Percentage increase = ((New Value – Old Value) ÷ Old Value) × 100. For example, if a price rises from ₹200 to ₹250, the increase = ((250 – 200) ÷ 200) × 100 = 25%. Use the "% Increase / Decrease" tab in our calculator.
How do I find what percent one number is of another?
+
Divide the part by the whole, then multiply by 100: (Part ÷ Whole) × 100. Example: 30 is what percent of 150? = (30 ÷ 150) × 100 = 20%. Use the "X is What % of Y?" tab above.
Can I calculate the original price before a discount?
+
Yes! Use the "Find Original Number" tab. If a product costs ₹480 after a 20% discount, enter 480 as the Known Value and 80 as the percentage (since 80% of original = discounted price). The result will be ₹600 — the original price.
Is this calculator useful for GST and tax calculations?
+
Absolutely! To find 18% GST on ₹1,000, use "% of a Number": enter 18% of 1000 = ₹180 GST. To find a price before GST was added, use "Find Original Number": enter the GST-inclusive amount and the GST percentage to reverse-calculate the base price.
